I've seen alot of lydia cottons videos, but this particual one i have a problem with. Although she means well, i cant ride with the message. She is basically saying that women have all the influence over men's success and failures. You know the saying, "behind every great man, there is a great woman" although she put her own spine on it with, "behind every great man, there is an ever GREATER woman"
Many BW have made this claim, (Dont get me started on how many times i heard how Barack Obama wouldn't have gotten to the level of success he's achieved, if it wasn't for Michelle. Not taking anything away from her, but come on, Barack wasn't exactly working the drive through at a fast food restraunt when he met michelle!) althought well intended, i think its detrimental and here's why.....
To preach this message tells young black male that he cant achieve success and greatness unless he has a woman by his side basically tells him that his manhood is validated by a woman. I know alot of thing men do is for women, but to teach a boy that he is nothing unless he has woman by his side will only further lower his self esteem, with all the other factors of being a black male in this country.
However, this same message isnt taught to young black girls, as a matter of fact, the exact opposite is taught, to reach and strive to be successful IN SPITE OF men. They are pushed to succeed, and when they do, there is no man around to give credit too, hell, thats almost a death sentence to a woman, to give credit to any man for her success.
Strong men, who are leaders dont allow women lead them anywere be it success or failure, now thats not to say that a good woman can influence you, or that a sorry woman cant bring you down. but overall, real men make there own way!!
